Tout au long de l'été, l'équipage de l'ancien canot de sauvetage tous-temps d'Etel, « Patron-Emile-Daniel » (1962), propose d'assister aux mises à l'eau, à l'abri du bout du quai, et d'embarquer pour des balades en ria. Mercredi après-midi, la balade a fait le plein, et le public était nombreux à la mise à l'eau et à l'embarquement, au quai. Les prochains embarquements sont programmés pour les 9 et 17 août (15 h, réservation au tél. 06.83.99.92.48). Mais d'ici-là, l'association qui gère, entretient et fait vivre ce canot du patrimoine, inscrit aux Monuments historiques cette année, invite à un repas moules-frites, le 5 août, midi et soir, sous la criée, au profit de son entretien. Pratique Repas moules-frites. Vendredi 5 août, midi et soir sous la Criée. Menu : kir, moules-frites, fromage et far breton. Tarifs : 13 € ; menu enfants : 7 €.

Vincent van Gogh died #onthisday in 1890. This work, 'Van Gogh's Chair', was painted in 1888 while Van Gogh was working in the company of Paul Gauguin at Arles. Van Gogh painted a companion picture of Gauguin's armchair, shown by night, now in the @vangoghmuseum. The two paintings may have been intended to represent the contrasting temperaments and interests of the two artists. Vincent van Gogh died #onthisday in 1890. 'A Wheatfield, with Cypresses' was painted in September 1889, when Van Gogh was in the St-Rémy mental asylum, near Arles, where he was a patient from May 1889 until May 1890. Van Gogh is today one of the most popular of the Post-Impressionist painters, although he was not widely appreciated during his lifetime. He is now famed for the great vitality of his works which are characterised by expressive and emotive use of brilliant colour and energetic application of impastoed paint. Here's a look back at our free 'The Sunflowers' display from 2014, which offered visitors the unique opportunity to witness the reunion of two of Vincent van Gogh's iconic 'Sunflower' paintings – shown together in London for the first time in 65 years. On the left is the 'Sunflowers' painting from our collection at the National Gallery, while the one on the right belongs to the @vangoghmuseum. These are two of four paintings of #sunflowers dating from August and September 1888. Van Gogh intended to decorate the artist Paul Gauguin's room with these paintings in the so-called Yellow House that he rented in Arles in the South of France.
