Les autorités birmanes ont de nouveau décidé d'interdire l'accès des diplomates et des journalistes au procès de l'opposante Aung San Suu Kyi jeudi, a appris l'Associated Press. L'ouverture du procès au monde extérieur n'aura donc duré qu'un seul jour, mercredi, avant de revenir au huis clos. La junte n'a pas indiqué clairement si elle envisage de rouvrir l'accès au procès de la prix Nobel de la paix, qui se tient dans la prison d'Insein à Rangoon. Aung San Suu Kyi a été maintenue en détention sans procès pendant 13 ans sur les 19 dernières années, et elle est accusée d'avoir violé les termes de sa détention en recevant chez elle un visiteur américain clandestin. Elle risque cinq ans de prison. AP

Pour ce qui est du plaisir visuel seul, le film "Aprop", un court-métrage de 6 minutes 30 secondes du réalisateur espagnol Aitor Echeverria, a rencontré pour cela un succès vif dans les festivals où il a été présenté. À la fois érotique, artistique et chorégraphique, le film met en scène deux femmes d'une façon magistrale, mais le réalisateur aurait sans doute rendu les mêmes effets sensuels avec un couple homme-femme, ou deux hommes...

Ten years ago, publisher Benedikt Taschen persuaded Helmut Newton to agree to produce a gigantic book with a print run of 10,000 copies, all signed by the photographer. Accompanied by a custom-made book holder by Philippe Starck, the book found its way into the homes of well-heeled buyers.

Now, for the first time, its 394 photographs will go on display to mark the 10th anniversary of a photography publication that today is a much sought-after collector's item. To accompany this presentation, Taschen will publish a smaller and revised version of the book for the regular book market.

In addition to SUMO, Mark Arbeit, George Holz and Just Loomis will be presented at the Helmut Newton Foundation with their photography under the title "Three boys from Pasadena". In the late 70s, they were students at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and later became assistants of Helmut Newton.

Alongside the show is a revised edition of the SUMO book, published by Taschen.

C'est sûrement l'un des événements les plus attendus du Festival de Cannes version 2009. La venue, mercredi, de Quentin Tarantino sur les marches cannoises pour la présentation de son dernier film en compétition officielle, Inglourious Basterds, ne laissera personne indifférent. Tarantino est de cette trempe : on adore ou on déteste, imposteur pour certains, génie pour d'autres. Sa dernière œuvre ne devrait pas changer la donne. Le chien fou du cinéma US vient de réaliser un film ancré dans la seconde guerre mondiale, où un commando spécial emmené par Brad Pitt s'introduit en France avec un seul objectif : tuer du nazi. Ce n'est évidemment pas la première fois que Quentin Tarantino se rend à Cannes. L'histoire entre le festival et celui qui, pour certains, est devenu au fil des ans l'un des plus grands réalisateurs américains vivants, débute en 1992 avec Reservoir Dogs, présenté hors compétition. Deux ans plus tard, son deuxième film, Pulp Fiction, remporte la Palme d'or... Et en 2004, alors que les fans attendent le second volume du diptyque Kill Bill, Tarantino préside le jury du prestigieux festival où est notamment salué le documentaire de Michael Moore, Fahrenheit 9/11.

Pour son septième film, après le somptueux Jackie Brown ou le jouissif Boulevard de la Mort, en compétition à Cannes en 2007, Tarantino devrait confirmer l'idée qu'il se faisait lui-même de ses œuvres en recevant la Palme d'or. Il déclarait alors réaliser des films qui divisent les opinions... Son Inglourious Basterds n'a, pour l'heure, été visionné que par des dizaines de journalistes privilégiés. Mais déjà, les avis divergent. Normal. Sur fond de seconde guerre mondiale, le réalisateur aura sûrement injecté ce qui fait sa pâte : culture populaire, dialogues farfelus, humour déglingué, violence assumée... Au-dessus, une musique enivrante, aussi importante pour Tarantino qu'elle pouvait l'être pour deux de ses pairs, Stanley Kubrick et Sergio Leone. Si le film est réussi, une seule expression suffira, un sourire. Pour Tarantino, le cinéma sert avant tout à ça.
