MARIO TESTINO - 'IN YOUR FACE' EXHIBITION - SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL

From 29th August 2014, Museum of Brazilian Art at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (MAB-FAAP), Brazil, presents the work of Mario Testino, one of the world’s most influential fashion and portrait photographers. The exhibition, In Your Face – first shown at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2012) and at MALBA in Buenos Aires (2014) – is an intimate and provocative insight into the different aspects of Testino's work. It features many of his most daring and audacious pictures, giving the viewer a close-up insight into his world through 122 personally selected images.

The selection of works represents the idea of a permanent collection taken from a museum, where different artists and genres are exhibited together. The full range of Testino’s photographic career is shown here, with no single style prevailing over another, creating provocative contrasts and contradictions.

Testino has sequenced the works, positioning formal portraits with private snapshots, nudes with fashion, black and white with colour, framed images with prints pinned directly to the walls. The works are displayed on a ledge throughout the exhibition to emphasize these juxtapositions and to reinforce the reaction that one image brings after the other.

His unique style and intuitive ability to capture moments and create emotional connections have made Mario Testino one of the most well-known photographers in the world. In Your Face gathers works that combine key elements of contemporary culture, inviting spectators to enter an aesthetically beautiful world of glamour, sensuality and sophistication.

"I am delighted to be showing my work at FAAP for the second time in my career” says Testino. “FAAP were one of the first institutions to exhibit my photography and I am also delighted to be bringing my work back to Brazil, a country that is very important for me and has given me so much inspiration."
