DIPLOMATIE - Pyongyang proteste contre des manœuvres militaires au Sud..

La Corée du Nord souffle le chaud et le froid. Après la détente spectaculaire, Pyongyang a menacé mercredi d’annuler le sommet prévu le 12 juin à Singapour entre son dirigeant Kim Jong-un et le président américain Donald Trump en raison de manœuvres militaires au Sud, a rapporté l’agence sud-coréenne Yonhap.

Pyongyang a également annulé une rencontre de haut niveau avec la Corée du Sud prévue mercredi pour protester contre l’exercice militaire annuel Max Thunder, auquel prennent part les armées sud-coréenne et américaine, a affirmé Yonhap, citant l’agence officielle nord-coréenne KCNA.

Les Etats-Unis devront « mûrement réfléchir sur le sort de ce sommet Corée du Nord-USA, à la lumière de vacarme militaire », a indiqué Yonhap, reprenant l’agence officielle nord-coréenne.

Les exercices entre les forces aériennes des deux alliés constituaient un entraînement pour une invasion et une provocation, alors que la période était au réchauffement des relations inter-coréennes, a ajouté Yonhap, citant toujours KCNA.

Washington continue de préparer le sommet

Pour sa part, Washington a affirmé continuer à préparer le sommet. « Nous allons continuer à aller de l’avant » concernant les préparatifs, « nous n’avons pas été notifiés » d’un changement, a déclaré la porte-parole du Département d’Etat, Heather Nauert.

Le langage utilisé par la Corée du Nord est un retour soudain à l’ancienne rhétorique de Pyongyang, qui a longtemps estimé qu’elle avait besoin de l’arme nucléaire pour se défendre contre les Etats-Unis.

Les hostilités entre Corée du Nord et Corée du Sud (1950-1953) se sont arrêtées après un cessez-le-feu, laissant le territoire divisé en deux pays, délimitées par une zone démilitarisée. Les deux camps sont toutefois techniquement toujours en guerre. Lors d’un sommet rarissime le mois dernier dans la zone démilitarisée, Kim Jong-un et le président sud-coréen Moon Jae-in ont réaffirmé leur engagement derrière un « objectif commun », la « dénucléarisation totale » de la péninsule.

A mass attempt by Palestinians to cross the border fence between Israel and Gaza quickly turned violent today. Israeli soldiers used tear gas and gunfire to keep Palestinian protesters from crossing the border fence with #Gaza, killing at least 52, according to Palestinian officials. At least 2,400 demonstrators were wounded. It was the bloodiest day since the campaign of demonstrations began 7 weeks ago to protest Israel's economic blockade of Gaza. 40 miles away, officials celebrated the U.S. Embassy's relocation to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv, on the 70th anniversary of the formation of Israel.
